Chipper Likely Headed To Disabled List

Braves' third baseman Chipper Jones is likely headed to the disabled list with a lingering quadriceps injury, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Jones said there was a "distinct" possibility that he could miss the next two weeks. He is currently leading the Major Leagues in hitting.

"Bottom line, I'd miss nine or 10 [more] days that, quite frankly, I'm probably going to need", Jones said after Sunday.

His stint on the DL would be retroactive to Thursday, the day after his last appearance. He would be eligible to come off July 11, the opener of a three-game series at San Diego leading into the All-Star break.

Cox: Maple Bats Put Players, Fans In Danger

Braves' Manager Bobby Cox believes that maple bats put both players and fans in danger, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

"It's really dangerous," said Cox, who never even saw a piece from a maple bat fly over his head last week.

"There are four or five a night," Cox said of the dangerous broken bats. "We're going to lose an eye or something. It could be a fan, could be an umpire, could be a player, could be guys in the dugout, could be anybody. They're going that far."

Major League Baseball is considering a crackdown on the use of maple bats.

Sheets Four-Hits Braves In Milwaukee Win

Ben Sheets allowed just four hits against the Braves on Tuesday in Milwaukee's 4-1 win on the road, according to The Associated Press.

Sheets pitched all nine innings, allowing one run on those four hits. He improved his record to 9-1 on the season, as he retired the final sixteen batters of the game.

"He's got the best curveball in baseball," Braves Manager Bobby Cox said. "If you're gonna beat Sheets, your pitcher's got to pitch a heck of a game."
