Justin Upton Hits Home Run Against D-Backs

Atlanta Braves outfielder Justin Upton, hot to begin the season, snapped a 14-game homerless drought on Monday night against his former team.

Upton, the first overall pick by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 2005 amateur draft, was playing his first game at Chase Field since the offseason trade that sent him and Johnson to Atlanta in a seven-player deal.

He received a mixed reaction throughout the night, with the cheers barely outweighing the boos when he stepped in or took the field for the first time.

"It was mixed, and that was what I expected," Upton said. "It is what it is. I tried to have fun with it. This time the fans were yelling at me instead of cheering me, but it was good."

Craig Kimbrel Coming Back Down To Earth

Atlanta Braves closer Craig Kimbrel dominated last season, striking out more than half of the batters he faced and allowing just four extra-base hits.

Kimbrel has allowed three home runs and two doubles in 2013 in just 13.1 innings and has blown three save chances.

McCann's Days In Atlanta May Be Numbered

Atlanta Braves catcher Brian McCann has returned from the disabled list, creating a catcher controversy.

Rookie Evan Gattis has surprised with his power this season.

"The Braves won't say it aloud, but the handwriting is on the wall for a change in 2014, with McCann making $12 million this year and ready to become a free agent after the year," writes Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.

Pitchers Aren't Attacking Justin Upton Inside

One of the reasons that Justin Upton has hit for so much power this season is that pitchers haven't attacked him on the inside.

"It's the strangest thing," a National League general manager said. "That's the way you get him out and teams aren't challenging him. They're letting him extend those hands and he'll hurt you that way."

Upton is hitting .278/.375/.657 with 12 home runs and 21 RBI in 30 games.
