The Orioles have acquired Joe Saunders for the Diamondbacks as they look to make the playoffs for the first time since 1997.
In exchange, Baltimore gave up right-handed reliever Matt Lindstrom and either cash or a player to be named later.
Saunders was 6-10 with a 4.22 ERA in 21 starts with Arizona this season.
The Orioles began the day tied for the second American League wild-card spot with Oakland and in third place in the AL East, only four games behind the Yankees.

The Diamondbacks traded Stephen Drew on Monday night and are expected to look for their shortstop of the future this offseason.
"We've been thinking about (next year's shortstop) all year already," Arizona general manager Kevin Towers said.
"There's not a lot on the free-agent market, so more than likely it's going to take a trade. We'll probably have to trade a good player -- or a couple of good players -- to find one."

The Diamondbacks have placed Joe Saunders on trade waivers.
Arizona traded Stephen Drew on Monday night, saving themselves at least $3.3 million going forward. They could make a similar move with Saunders.
Saunders, 6-10 with a 4.22 ERA, is owed just under $1.5 million for the rest of the season and will become a free agent this winter.
