Ian Kennedy Wins 17th Game

Diamondbacks right-hander Ian Kennedy led the team to a 6-1 win over the Padres on Sunday to become the first 17-game winner in the National League this season.

"Everybody speculated when I named him Opening Day starter and he's lived up to it," manager Kirk Gibson said of Kennedy. "He's been huge."

Kennedy posted his ninth quality start in ten outings.

D-Backs, Jays Swap Second Baseman

The Diamondbacks have traded second baseman Kelly Johnson to the Blue Jays for infielders Aaron Hill and John McDonald

Johnson, eligible for free agency after the season, has struggled at the plate this year, hitting .209 with 132 strikeouts and 18 homers.

Hill, who will fill Johnson's spot at second, is hitting .225 but was second among all second basemen with 62 homers from 2009-10.

McDonald is expected to help Willie Bloomquist at shortstop with Stephen Drew on the DL with a broken right ankle. McDonald hit .250 in 65 games with Toronto this season.

Marquis To Miss 4-6 Weeks

The Diamondbacks will be without right-hander Jason Marquis for four-to-six weeks after an injury suffered on Sunday.

He broke his right shinbone when it was hit by a line drive against the Mets.

Arizona manager Kirk Gibson said Marquis would be out for four to six weeks.

"I was put on a good position coming over here," Marquis said. "I finally was getting the results I had wanted to, so to finish on this note. Hopefully it's not the end."

The Diamondbacks acquired Marquis in a trade with the Nationals last month.
