Byrnes Believes Giants Would Be 'Best Fit'

Eric Byrnes is interested in playing for the Giants if the feeling is mutual.

Byrnes says he's finally 100 percent after two injury-plagued seasons. The Diamondbacks have given up on him despite owing him $11 million next season.

He can sign with another team for the minimum salary.

"It's not a real secret (that) I'd definitely be interested," Byrnes said. "The Giants, of course, that's the best fit geographically."

Diamondbacks Part Ways With Byrnes

The Diamondbacks cut ties with Eric Byrnes on Friday to make room for free-agent acquisition Adam LaRoche.

Byrnes has been a major disappointment since his three-year, $30 million extension kicked in at the start of the 2008 season.

Arizona designated Byrnes for assignment. They are still responsible for his $11 million salary in 2010 and have 10 days to either trade him or release him.

LaRoche will become Arizona's everyday first baseman and Connor Jackson will move to left field.

LaRoche batted .277 with 25 homers and 83 RBIs in 150 games for the Pirates, Red Sox and Braves in 2009.
