D-Backs Ready To Spend Money On Relievers

The Diamondbacks are ready to spend money this winter in order to bolster their bullpen.

They are looking specifically for a veteran reliever to serve as a setup man for closer Chad Qualls.

"I just think we're open to any way to make that a strength," general manager Josh Byrnes told MLB.com.

"When we pitch well out of the bullpen the last two years, those have been the times we've played well. Obviously, it's a very hard part of the roster to predict, but if we can bring in a guy or two in the offseason that can bring more power and depth back there, it's something we will take a look at."

D-Backs Get Good Reports On Webb

The Diamondbacks have gotten positive word from medical reports on Brandon Webb's shoulder.

Early on it was believed that Arizona might not pick up the pitcher's $8.5 million option for 2010, but the Boston Globe reports that they are now expected to do so.

Boston Could Go After Stephen Drew

The Diamondbacks are expected to shop shortstop Stephen Drew this winter.

The Red Sox, who have been looking for a long-term option at shortstop for many years, will likely inquire about Drew this offseason.

Drew hit .261 with 12 homers and 65 RBIs this season. He also made only 11 errors.

Stephen's brother J.D. plays right field for Boston.
