Arizona Mildly Refutes Drew Trade Report

USA Today reported over the weekend that Arizona will listen to offers this off-season on shortstop Stephen Drew in an attempt to upgrade their starting pitching.

One team executive noted that the organization always has and will listen to offers on just about every player but said Drew would rank among those least likely to be traded.

The Diamondbacks have no other major league-ready shortstops in their organization, so dealing Drew would create a hole.

D-Backs Want Veteran Arm In Bullpen

Diamondbacks general manager Josh Byrnes wants to add a veteran arm to the team's bullpen this winter.

"We've had our share of adversity this year, and in the bullpen it's not going to be a smooth ride for six months," Byrnes told the Arizona Republic. "We'd like to have people who can sort of understand that a bad game is going to happen but not let it happen too often and set an example that way."

Arizona could also be looking for a few starting pitchers, depending on what they do with Brandon Webb.

Haren Wants To See Webb Back In Arizona

Diamondbacks pitcher Dan Haren wants to see teammate Brandon Webb back in Arizona next season.

"I would love to see him back," Haren told the Arizona Republic. "He's more disappointed about this year than anybody, and financially, it's not that much of a risk. With the possibility of losing Doug (Davis) and having already lost (Jon) Garland, we almost need him to come back. If Brandon can be 80 percent of what he was before, he is still a Cy Young contender."

The Diamondbacks must pick up Webb's $8.5 million option or buy out his contract for $2 million. The decision must come five days after the conclusion of the World Series.
