Webb Now Out Six Weeks

Arizona starter Brandon Webb will now sit for at least six more weeks with a strain in his right shoulder.

However, he isn't concerned about the long-term severity of the injury.

"I came in today and I felt fine; that's what is kind of frustrating about it," Webb said. "All my exercises I did (with team trainers and Dr. Michael Lee), those were great.

"I feel as strong as I ever felt in those, so that's good. It's a muscular thing, and our trainer kind of described it as a hamstring pull or strain in your arm, which someone like Byrnsie (Eric Byrnes), it took him a while last year, so that's kind of what we're dealing with."

Webb was expected to return much sooner, but he suffered a setback in his evaluation on Friday.

Diamondbacks Shut Webb Down

The Diamondbacks have shut down ace Brandon Webb for three weeks with soreness in his right shoulder.

The move means that Webb won't return to a Major League mound before mid-May.

He suffered a setback on Friday while warming up in a scheduled bullpen session before the team's game against the Giants.

"We really don't know anything right now," manager Bob Melvin said. " ... This is absolutely confusing because he felt good last time out, and all the maintenance stuff leading up to this would suggest he felt good. But once he played catch there was just some tightness in the same spot and, we didn't want to push it any further than that."
