Source: Royals Sign Cruz To 2-Year Deal

The Royals have signed reliever Juan Cruz to a two-year contract, a sure sign that they are intent on competing sooner rather than later.

The deal, worth $6 million, includes a team option for a third year at $3.5 million.

Kansas City will lose their second-round draft pick to Arizona after signing Cruz.

Twins Like Cruz, But Haven't Made Offer

Reports that the Twins are close to a sign-and-trade deal with the Diamondbacks for free-agent pitcher Juan Cruz are not true, according to a source.

The person said that Minnesota has not made a formal offer to Cruz, which would be the first step to a sign-and-trade deal.

D-Backs Sign Gordon To 1-Year Deal

The Diamondbacks have signed free-agent reliever Tom Gordon to a one-year contract worth $500,000.

Gordon, 41, can make an additional $2 million in bonuses under the agreement.

He had a 5-4 record, two saves and a 5.16 ERA last year for the Phillies.
