Could The Big Unit Pitch In California?

Randy Johnson has yet to come out and say that he wants to pitch in 2009, but one of his agents believes that he will do so.

"I anticipate that he will pitch again, and that's where we are," Barry Meister said. He added that he has yet to hear from the Diamondbacks about next season.

Johnson owes a home in Southern California, which could make pitching for either Los Angeles team or San Diego a strong possibility.

D-Backs Will Offer Dunn Arbitration?

The Arizona Diamondbacks will certainly offer Adam Dunn salary arbitration, and since he is a Type A free agent, they will get two Draft picks as compensation when he signs elsewhere.

There is always the chance that he accepts arbitration, in which case he would be back next year, but the only way that happens is if the poor economy influences dramatically how much teams are willing to spend on free agents.

Could Byrnes Waive No-Trade Clause?

Diamondbacks' outfielder Eric Byrnes had a no-trade clause built into his contract last winter, but he appears to be warming to the idea of dropping the clause.

"No one wants to be somewhere that they?re not wanted, so if it came down to that, sure," Byrnes said. "But I still have some value when I?m healthy and playing my game, which I believe I can do. I can never say never, but at the same time it would have to be some perfect situation for me.

"I signed to play here. I didn?t sign to play somewhere else. That?s a lot of the reason why even when I signed the deal and had the no-trade clause put in there it was such a big deal to me. Because I?ve been shipped off before, I?ve dealt with that, been traded twice in a year. That wasn?t necessarily an ideal situation for me then."
