Webb, D-Backs Stop Contract Talks

Brandon Webb and the Diamondbacks have put their contract talks on hold once again, according to The Arizona Republic.

"It's gone on for five months," he said. "I'm tired of it. We've got 2 1/2 years. If it comes down to that, I'll be a free agent."

Webb is under contract for 2009, and the D-Backs hold a club option for the 2010 season.

"I felt that we were close," he admitted.

D-Backs, Haren Close On Extension?

The Diamondbacks and pitcher Dan Haren are still trying to agree on a long-term extension to keep the hurler in town past 2009, according to The Arizona Republic.

Haren, who has a 3.41 ERA this season, has an option for 2010 that would pay him roughly $6.75 million. He is owed $4 million this year and $5.5 million in 2009.

"Hopefully, I'll be here a long time," he said. "I liked it in Oakland, and, you know, I love it here."

He said he and the Diamondbacks discussed a contract extension earlier in the season, but "it kind of broke off."

"There's so much to think about during the daily grind, anything more is just too much," he said.

"If it's something we revisit in the offseason, then it's that," Haren said. "If it's something that can be moved on quickly during the year, I'm sure we'd be good."
