While Erick Aybar and Maicer Izturis have OPS totals of .628 and .250 respectively while playing shortstop for the Angels, Brandon Wood is on a home run tear in Triple-A, hitting four in his past three games.

Wood, who has moved back to shortstop for now, has six home runs in 45 at bats this season and an OPS of .972.

One area of concern in Wood's season is the high strike out rate, as he has struck out 18 times of in 40% of his at bats.

Wood has always been a big slugger, hitting 43 homers in his first minor league season in high Single-A. He hit 25 in Double-A in 2006 and 23 in Triple-A last season, but his OBP dropped from .353 to .338. This season it is down to .283 despite the home run onslaught. Wood has just one walk this season.
