Josh Beckett made his 2008 debut for the Red Sox on Sunday and felt good despite sub-par results, according to the Boston Herald.

"My health was good," Beckett said.

In just under five innings, the right-hander allowed three hits and five runs, while recording six strikeouts and four walks.

"The only thing was I thought his legs started to go a little bit, which was understandable," Red Sox manager Terry Francona said. "I wanted to give him the opportunity to get through five, which I thought he deserved. Especially early in the game, he was throwing the ball knee-high, with good velocity, nice and free and easy, and staying within his delivery."
