Athletics' third baseman Eric Chavez will likely begin the season on the disabled list after suffering a setback while rehabbing his back, according to MLB.com.

He has been shutdown by Oakland in order to strengthen his surgically-repaired back.

"He sounds disappointed," athletic trainer Steve Sayles said. "Extremely disappointed. He really thought he had this thing beat."
