The agent for Jason Varitek, Scott Boras, claims that the catcher is interested in discussing an extension with the Red Sox but that he won't approach the team, according to the Boston Globe.

"If the Red Sox are receptive to discussing it, we certainly would be, as well," Boras said.

Varitek's contract expires at the end of the season.
