Josh Beckett will not travel with the Red Sox when they fly to Japan on Wednesday, according to the Boston Globe.

Manager Terry Francona made it official on Sunday, citing Beckett's back spasms as the obvious reason.

"He's not going to go with us to Japan," Francona said Sunday. "Talked to him this morning about it. He completely understands. ... It's just not the right thing to do."
