New York Yankees right-hander Jaret Wright left his start against the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday in the third inning after being struck by Eric Hinske's broken bat.

First baseman Jason Giambi also left the game after the top of the fourth inning because of back spasms. Andy Phillips replaced him.

Hinske's bat broke as he grounded out to first. Wright tried to brace himself but he stepped right in the path of the barrel, which bruised and cut his right elbow. Wright fell down holding his arm.

He tested it out by throwing some warmup pitches, but was replaced by Al Leiter.

Wright entered the game 5-2 with a 5.37 ERA.
