With All-Star Miguel Cabrera gone, the Marlins are searching for a third baseman.

In an attempt to perhaps fill that hole, on Friday the Marlins signed veteran infielder Jorge Cantu to a minor-league contract.

Florida traded Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis to the Tigers on December 5 for lefthander Andrew Miller, outfielder Cameron Maybin, catcher Mike Rabelo, and three other prospects.

The Marlins hope Cantu can help fill the void Cabrera left at third base. The 26-year-old hit .252 with one home run in 52 games with the Reds and Rays last season.
