Yankees Aren't Denying Giants' Interest In Matsui

Star-Ledger - Hideki Matsui is reported to be of interest to the San Francisco Giants, and the Yankees aren't shooting it down.

"We're looking at a lot of things," Senior VP Hank Steinbrenner said last night. "We're trying out a lot of things."

"I don't want to get into potential deals that we're going to make."

The San Jose Mercury News, citing a Giants' executive, said talks are "preliminary but substantive enough that the two clubs planned to speak again in the coming days." The Mercury News said the Yankees have interest in lefty reliever Johnathan Sanchez.

Matsui's agent Arn Tellem said he had not heard from the Yankees regarding a possible trade of Matsui, who has a no-trade clause.

The Yankees have a glut of outfielders, especially if they want Jason Giambi to be a full-time designated hitter. [READ]
