New York Post - The Red Sox, according to an official who has been in contact with their top brass, had two goals in the process when it has come to chasing Johan Santana.

1. Make sure to pursue the player with enough gusto so the Yankees either overpay for Santana or back out.

2. Make a deal, but only on their terms, which means not including Clay Buchholz, Jon Lester or Jacoby Ellsbury in any combination, only independently in packages. [READ]
