Allen had been in charge of the team's business operations the last two seasons under owner Bob Castellini. His legacy will be how he guided baseball's first professional franchise through one of its darkest times. Allen joined the Reds as controller in 1995 and became managing executive a year later, when Schott was suspended by Major League Baseball.
