Add the Royals to any list of serious bidders for free-agent outfielder Torii Hunter. The need to bolster the American League?s weakest lineup is prompting increased interest in Hunter, a longtime Minnesota standout, while simultaneously forcing club officials to seek ways to create room for him within their payroll structure. Royals' GM Dayton Moore declined to confirm interest in Hunter but acknowledged it is easy to identify the pool of free agents who fit the club?s needs. ?You can look at the free agents,? Moore said, ?and pretty much guess who the Royals should be kicking the tires on.? Multiple sources confirmed the Royals recently held exploratory talks with Hunter?s advisers and came away assured they are in the mix. |
