Russo suggested to Jeter that he would be happy if the Yankees changed their mind, but Jeter wouldn't take the bait. Asked about a possible return of Rodriguez, who opted out of the final three years of his 10-year, $252-million contract Sunday night, Jeter said: "One thing I've learned getting to know the Steinbrenners, especially Hank and Hal, is that they are men of their word. They've made a statement. I don't know exactly what's going on, or what's going on in the front office, but it looks like it's not going to happen." Jeter said nothing about whether he would want Rodriguez back, or if he was disappointed or wished Rodriguez had not opted out. |
