Those who know second baseman Kazuo Matsui well believe his free-agent decision will depend as much on his comfort level as economics.

That gives the Rockies a decent shot of re-signing him.

General Manager Dan O'Dowd realizes that Matsui earned a raise from his $1.5 million but stressed that the Rockies won't let the market determine the value of the player.
