Padres closer Trevor Hoffman had arthroscopic surgery to remove a few small bone chips from his right elbow. He's expected to be ready by spring training.
Hoffman, who had the operation on Thursday, is the career saves leader with 524. However, he blew two saves in his final two appearances, costing the Padres the wild card.
