The industry regarded John Hart as an imperfect general manager when he ran the Indians and Rangers. For one thing, no one ever accused Hart of working too hard. Nevertheless, Hart deserves some credit this postseason, as three of the eight teams are run by Hart's prot?g?s. Shapiro, the Rockies' Dan O'Dowd and the Diamondbacks' Josh Byrnes all learned under Hart in Cleveland. Shapiro reached out to Hart, now a consultant with Texas, earlier in the week. He finally heard back, via text message, on Friday. "He said that he always hired people smarter than him," Shapiro said. "I told him I'm following his tradition." |
