As some around him voice increasing skepticism about his return, Tony La Russa said Friday it's possible he will notify Cardinals Chairman Bill DeWitt Jr. early next week of his decision whether to manage the club for a 13th season in 2008. "I want to be honest in what that decision is," La Russa said. Speaking publicly for the first time since Wednesday's ouster of longtime associate and friend Walt Jocketty as general manager, La Russa said he was very surprised by the move. "I thought Walt would be back, but he's not," La Russa said. "I don't know how to express what I think except ... the club made its decision." La Russa declined to elaborate on how Jocketty's absence would affect his decision.
