With baseball?s postseason under way and Barry Bonds perhaps contemplating where he will play next season, the federal government?s investigation into whether he committed perjury about his use of performance-enhancing drugs appears stalled.

Lawyers involved with the case say that if prosecutors had enough evidence to indict Bonds, they would have acted. They say the government is continuing to hold out hope that Bonds?s former trainer, Greg Anderson, will testify against Bonds.

Anderson has been jailed for much of the grand jury?s term, which began last July, for his refusal to testify about substances he gave Bonds. Bonds testified that he thought he was using flaxseed oil. Aside from what Anderson might provide if he testifies, the government does not appear to have additional evidence against Bonds.
