Griffey left the game in the eighth with a lower abdominal strain and will return today to Cincinnati, where he will be evaluated by Reds medical director Dr. Tim Kremcheck. With the loss, the Reds were mathematically eliminated from playoff contention and have only three remaining games against a contending team, so Griffey's return to the lineup this season is unlikely. Griffey has played in 144 games this season, hitting .277 with 30 home runs and 93 RBIs. He is seven home runs shy of becoming the sixth player in baseball history to hit 600 career home runs. |
