The Diamondbacks will be without one of their offensive spark plugs and defensive stalwarts down the stretch.

All-Star second baseman Orlando Hudson will have season-ending surgery on Monday as a result of a torn ligament in his left thumb.

The two-time Gold Glove winner injured the thumb sliding headfirst into first base in the sixth inning of Wednesday night's game against the Padres.
