Seeking a possible fifth starter, the Padres signed veteran right-hander Brett Tomko on Tuesday.

Tomko went 2-11 with a 5.80 ERA in 33 games, including 15 starts, for the Dodgers. The club designated him for assignment on Aug. 24 to make room in the rotation for David Wells.
