After signing a two-year, $22 million contract extension Saturday, with a mutual $12 million option for 2010, Jermaine Dye confessed that impending free agency was a lot tougher on his psyche than he could have imagined.

''You come to the ballpark not knowing if you're going to get called in the office every day [for a trade] ... it's tough,'' Dye said. ''You just have to learn how to play through it, understand it's a business. Being talked about is a good thing. That means teams out there want you.

''You hear the rumors and stuff. You continue to play, and whatever happens, happens.''
