When Johnny Damon got to the Stadium yesterday and saw Shelley Duncan was penciled in as the game's DH, the normally easy-going outfielder was none too happy.

After hitting .345 on the Yankees' recent road trip and following that up with a two-hit night against the White Sox Tuesday night - including an upper-deck home run - Damon was annoyed that he wasn't told he was not in the lineup last night, at one point even hinting to a reporter that the Yankees might be better off dealing him when Jason Giambi returns.

What irked Damon as much as not playing was the fact that he was not told about being given the day off. But after Damon had a discussion with Joe Torre to air his concerns, all was right again in his world.

"You always want to be in there playing," Damon said. "It's not my decision, Joe made out the lineup and I'm sure I'll be back in there (today)."

After last night's 8-1 win over the White Sox, Damon backed off his pregame comments somewhat, saying he never asked for a trade and does not want to be traded.

"I like where this team is and how it's improving," Damon said. When asked if he had asked for a trade he answered with a quick, "No. Never."
