The Padres signed Shea Hillenbrand to a minor league contract on Friday, and he will report to Triple-A Portland.

The right-handed hitting Hillenbrand, who turned 32 on Friday, played in 53 games this season with the Angels before being designated for assignment on June 29. He cleared waivers and became a free agent on July 11. He batted .254 with five doubles, three home runs and 22 RBIs.
