Jason Giambi has been something of a forgotten man on the Yankees since he went on the disabled list June 1 with torn tissue in his left foot. The slugger's name has been in headlines for his meeting with baseball steroids investigator George Mitchell, but little has been said about whether he can help the Yankees this season.

Giambi is in Tampa, Fla., working out at the Yankees' complex.

n an interview with The Associated Press, he spoke about trying to return now that the steroid cloud is (probably) behind him.

"I'm excited to be doing something - getting that opportunity to come out here, get working, and finally do something instead of sitting around," Giambi said. "The biggest thing is try not to go fast, but I want to go fast enough where I can hopefully come back and make a difference."
