Barry Bonds was scratched from the Giants' starting lineup Monday, giving him a day to rest his aching legs.

He originally was listed to bat in the cleanup spot and play left field for the opener of the four-game series against the Chicago Cubs.

Bonds is in the midst of a season-worst 0-for-20 slump. He has 751 career homers, four shy of tying Hank Aaron's record, but hasn't homered since July 3 at Cincinnati.
