Signing Mark Buehrle to a four-year, $56 million contract was the first step in what figures to be an expensive march into the future for the White Sox. One of the most expensive additions might be finding a proven center fielder. And that takes us to the All-Star gathering. Center field will be a deep and talented class in next offseason's free-agent market. Ichiro Suzuki could be a viable leadoff hitter, and Andruw Jones has long been on Sox general manager Ken Williams' radar. One fan-favorite choice is Philadelphia Phillies All-Star Aaron Rowand, who lists playing center field for the Sox on his resume. Another more intriguing choice would be Minnesota Twins All-Star Torii Hunter. Yes, Hunter might be a tough sell for White Sox fans -- the Jamie Burke incident in 2004 was a defining moment -- but if A.J. Pierzynski can find a home on the South Side, anything is possible. |
