Torii Hunter's days in Minnesota soon may be behind him. He can become a free agent after the season and could nicely fill centerfield for the Yankees if they decide Melky Cabrera is not a long-term fit there.

As a premier player on offense and defense, it's likely that Hunter will command a more lucrative multiyear contract than the Twins are comfortable offering. But he holds out hope that he can remain a Twin and star in the new stadium slated to open in 2010.

"Maybe something will happen this season and I'll be a Twin for the rest of my career," Hunter said. "The new stadium, I would like to play in it. But it ain't what I want. I think people forget that. They figure it's up to me. It's not up to me, it's up to the Twins. If the Twins want me in their plans, they'll sign me to a multiyear contract and I'll stay here for the rest of my career. The market is what it is. What's fair is fair. I want what I'm worth; I don't want more, I don't want less."

Hunter says he tried to approach the Twins about a contract extension this past spring but got nowhere.
