Officials are limiting public access to McCovey Cove behind AT&T Park as part of security precautions for the All-Star game. The restrictions prohibit all motorized boats as well as non-motorized boats longer than 20 feet from July 7-10. The ban is "prudent" given the number of boats that could otherwise be expected in the cove, said Shana Daum, a spokeswoman for the San Francisco Giants. ADVERTISEMENT Kayaks are expected to be out in force behind the park's right-field fence, as fans hope to catch a souvenir splash-hit ball from the game. Roads around the ballpark also will be closed for security reasons. The boating restrictions extend to media as well, the only exception being Fox and ESPN, which have been awarded the right to televise All-Star events from Major League Baseball. |
