During spring training, Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling said he would not negotiate a new contract once the season began. Yet during an interview on the ?Dennis & Callahan? radio show on WEEI yesterday morning, the veteran right-hander said he would accept a one-year, $13 million extension if it were offered right now. Schilling didn?t think the seemingly disparate comments conflicted one another. ?If they offered me that deal and I accepted it, that wouldn?t be a negotiation,? Schilling said yesterday at Fenway Park. ?I said I wouldn?t negotiate a deal during the season, and I?m saying that now. But I would accept that offer.? Last year, Schilling said he planned to retire when his contract ended after the 2007 season. But he had a change of heart during spring training, saying he?d sign a one-year extension for $13 million, his current annual salary.
