The Rangers purchased the contract of Marlon Byrd from Triple-A Oklahoma and optioned Kevin Mahar to the same club prior to Saturday night's game against the Red Sox.

To make room for Byrd on the 40-man roster, the Rangers designated catcher Miguel Ojeda for assignment. Byrd appeared in 44 games for Oklahoma this season, hitting a team-high .358, fourth in the PCL. Byrd had six homers and 32 RBIs along with 18 multi-hit games.
