Red Sox righthander Daisuke Matsuzaka was named AL Player of the Week on Monday.

Matsuzaka went 2-0 with a 2.12 ERA in two starts, striking out 11 in 17 innings.

On May 14, the 26-year-old rookie earned his first major league complete game, yielding just a run and six hits in a 7-1 victory against the defending AL champion Tigers. On Saturday, the native of Tokyo allowed three runs and nine hits in eight innings while striking out six in a 13-3 victory vs. the Braves. Overall Matsuzaka is 6-2, with a 4.06 ERA in nine starts.
