The Yankees were Roger Clemens' third option last summer because they were unwilling to let him come and go when he wasn't starting.

"I told Randy Hendricks, I assumed we'd be second on his list," general manager Brian Cashman said. "But he said, `You assumed wrong. You were the only team that wouldn't consider the family thing with him.'"

During Spring Training, Joe Torre talked to a few veteran players about how they would feel if Clemens did have special provisions and they indicated that they didn't have a problem with it.
