The Yankees sent struggling lefthander Kei Igawa of Japan to the minor leagues on Monday and called up rookie Matt DeSalvo.

Igawa has been a major disappointment for the Yankees, who paid a posting fee of 26 million dollars to Japan's Hanshin Tigers to negotiate with him.

New York then signed Igawa to a five year, 20 million-dollar deal, but have not seen return on their investment. The 27-year-old is 2-1 with a 7.63 ERA and has given up eight homers in 30 2/3 innings.
