Tigers reliever Jose Mesa, who has struggled this season, was placed on the 15-day disabled list Friday with a pulled right groin, the team announced.

The move is retroactive to Tuesday, one day after the 40-year-old righthander allowed two runs and two hits while retiring just one batter against Kansas City.
