Mariners star pitcher Felix Hernandez left Wednesday's game against the Twins in the first inning for precautionary reasons due to tightness in his right elbow.

Hernandez retired just one batter while allowing two runs on two hits and two walks before the trainers came out of the dugout and lifted him with a 3-1 count on Justin Morneau.

He will be re-examined Thursday.
