Infielder Enrique Cruz was called up Friday by the Reds, who need someone to fill in while shortstop Alex Gonzalez is on bereavement leave.

Cruz, 25, was assigned to Double-A Chattanooga after he appeared in eight games for the Reds during spring training. It will be Cruz's second stint in the majors, he appeared in 60 games for Milwaukee in 2003, starting at shortstop.
