While the Yankees' starting pitchers have struggled, there is no greater need for Roger Clemens than there was before.

"Nothing's changed," Brian Cashman said. "If he expresses an interest in playing, we'd love to have that conversation. His agents know that, and he knows that."

This week, Clemens has been working out in Kentucky with his son, Koby, a third baseman on the Class A Lexington Legends.

As for the possibility of Clemens' return to the majors, "we won't reach any conclusions until some time in May," agent Randy Hendricks said in an e-mail.

Pettitte and others have acknowledged that Clemens' family situation will play a key factor. "It's a tough decision," Pettitte said.

Clemens said he would play only for the Astros, Red Sox or Yankees.
