On Monday, Padres starting pitcher Chris Young gave the Padres seven scoreless innings in a 1-0 victory over the San Francisco Giants at PETCO Park.

On Tuesday, the Padres gave the 6-foot-10 right-hander a four-year contract with a club option for the 2011 season, the club announced at a Tuesday morning press conference.

Young, who turns 29 on May 25, is 1-0 in two starts this season with a 2.13 ERA. Last season, Young won 11 games, led the National League with a 2.41 road ERA and led the Major Leagues in holding opponents to a .206 average.

On Tuesday, less than a day after Young tossed seven scoreless innings in a victory over San Francisco and less than a month since Towers and Babby met, the 27-year-old had agreed to a four-year contract worth $14.5 million, including a includes a $500,000 signing bonus and a $8.5 million club option for 2011.

He'll receive $750,000 this season, $2.5 million in 2008, $4.5 million in 2009 and $6.25 million in 2010. The deal covers his arbitration-eligible years as well as his first year of free agency.
