The Boston Red Sox began overhauling their roster on Tuesday night, acquiring outfielder Adam Hyzdu from the San Diego Padres and designating left-handed reliever Alan Embree for assignment. The Red Sox lost six of seven heading into Tuesday night's game against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, dropping from 3? games ahead in the AL East to a half-game behind the Yankees. They have needed an outfielder since Jay Payton was exiled for a tantrum in the dugout. Boston sent minor-league pitcher Scott Cassidy to the Padres for Hyzdu, who had three hits in 20 at-bats for San Diego and also spent time in the minors this season. Hyzdu has been in and out of the Red Sox organization; most recently, he was traded to the Padres in spring training for Blaine Neal.
